August 15, 1945, is a historic day when President Kim Il Sung put an end to the 40-odd-year-long Japanese colonial rule.
In the grimmest period of national ruin, President Kim Il Sung embarked on the road of revolution with a high aim to liberate the country and opened up a new road of independence and patriotism no one has ever trodden, for the country and people.
Flunkeyism and dependence on foreign forces cannot bring the national independence. The only way for the country is the independence by own efforts depending on the popular masses. Driven by such a firm belief, President Kim Il Sung founded Down-with-Imperialism Union on October 17, 1926 and solemnly declared the sacred war against Japanese imperialists relying only on our nation itself. By founding of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army, the first revolutionary armed force in our country on April 25, 1932, he determinedly started the all-out confrontation against Japanese imperialists.
It was indeed the highest form of expression of the revolutionary principle and standpoint as well as the correct way of struggle of President Kim Il Sung who put forward the idea of achieving national independence and liberation relying on our own efforts. As a result, the anti-Japanese armed struggle organized and conducted under the banner of independence set forth by President Kim Il Sung could develop into an all-people resistance, and sacred war of patriotism involving people from all walks of life who oppose Japanese imperialists and aspire to the national liberation. And this might made it possible to achieve the historic cause of national liberation.
Therefore, mass media of many foreign countries including Russia, Cuba, Egypt commended the cause of national liberation achieved by President Kim Il Sung as follows.
The anti-Japanese war in Korea, which had been led by President Kim Il Sung, was an arduous battle rarely seen in history. The anti-Japanese war in Korea was an anti-colonial struggle for national liberation, that achieved victory by believing in and relying on the strength of the people. It was also a war featured by the indomitable spirit and will of the fighters.
Indeed, the idea of self-reliant independence set forth by President Kim Il Sung became the banner of struggle which made us put an end to the ideological stand to accomplish independence by means of submission to and dependence on foreign forces. At the same time, it taught us the philosophical truth that those who sincerely love and value their country and people should carry out the revolution by relying on the people with a firm belief in their strength. It also served as an inspiring banner, the source of power, for the oppressed people across the world to defeat the imperialist aggressors by relying on its own revolutionary forces.
