All the Korean people recollect in humble reverence the noble life of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung who walked field paths on and on till the last period of his life for the agricultural development of the country.

Walking Field Paths All His Life

The Korean people put an end to the decades of colonial rule of the Japanese imperialists and achieved the national liberation on August 15, 1945.

Comrade Kim Il Sung transplanted rice seedlings with farmers in the liberated country and walked field paths all his life to bring in rich harvests on this land

He found himself on the field path on April 15, 1954 as well, his first birthday after the Fatherland Liberation War.

Early in the morning, he visited the then Samjong Agricultural Cooperative in Junghwa County and, walking along the dewy field path, taught its farmers how to do good farming and be well-off.

That day, he heard that the neighbouring village was planting wheat by machine and walked a rugged path to get there and see the villagers working.

Told by officials that there was a spring, he trod the dangerous wetland to select the site for a fish farm.

That evening, he said: I’ve spent my birthday with pleasure. Rest does not mean eating and playing. If the state affairs go well, it makes me happy and pleasant and, after all, it is a rest for me.

One spring day in May 1952 during the war to repulse the invasion of the US-led allied imperialist forces, he sowed seeds with farmers in Wonhwa-ri of Phyongwon County.

As said above, Comrade Kim Il Sung walked field paths in all seasons, exposing himself to rain and snow, in order to solve the issue of farming and improve the people’s diet.

Creating Juche Farming Method

The Juche farming method is a scientific one to grow crops on a scientific and technological basis in conformity with the climatic and soil conditions of our country and the biological characteristics of crops. It is a method of cultivating crops most intensively by relying on modern science and technology.

In order to find a way to boost the agricultural production, Comrade Kim Il Sung went among the farmers to meet old and young people and talked with them for several hours or all day long. Without resting content with listening to their farming experiences, he made several experiments to prove them scientifically, theoretically and practically.

Lecturer Kim Sol Hui at the Korean Revolution Museum talked about the experimental plots showing the devoted efforts of Comrade Kim Il Sung as follows:

“One day tens of years ago, some agricultural scientists went to the residence of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung at his call.

Anyone would think first of ornamental trees or beautiful flowers when talking about a garden.

However, the garden in the residence of Comrade Kim Il Sung was full of various kinds of economic plants and trees, and tens of kinds of grain and medicinal crops, vegetables and feed crops cultivated with sincerity. They were growing in the experimental plots with signposts set up in good order.

Comrade Kim Il Sung welcomed the agricultural scientists and stepped toward the experimental plots for wheat and barley.

Wheat and barley plants he cultivated were heavily laden with ripening ears.

Comrade Kim Il Sung said in order to solve the food problem in our country with limited area of arable land, we should do double cropping and that strains are important for the purpose. And he explained the cultivation methods of various strains of wheat and barley and the orientation of future research one by one.”

At that time, the agricultural scientists couldn’t know all about the wheat and barley plots.

Laying out experimental plots for various kinds of crops in the garden, Comrade Kim Il Sung got to know that there was no land for testing double cropping of wheat and barley.

He looked around the garden and pointed at a small pond, suggesting filling it up and planting crops there.

Officials earnestly requested him to leave the pond intact as it had been made out of the wish for him to have a good rest even for a while.

Comrade Kim Il Sung insisted on filling it up, saying it was not necessary for him to stroll there alone because it was rest for him to go among the people.

And he planted various strains of wheat and barley there and cultivated them for a long time, observing their growth. Like this, he turned the garden of his residence into experimental plots and cultivated crops there to create a model of new farming methods.

The experimental plots in the residence were the cradle of the Juche farming method which opened a new era of scientific farming on this land and the crystallization of the love for the people shown by Comrade Kim Il Sung who devoted his life to transforming the whole country into a people’s paradise where the harvest is plenteous.

The benevolent image of Comrade Kim Il Sung is still kept deep in the hearts of all the Korean people as he was always concerned for the agricultural development of the country and the solution of the people’s food problem.
