Stories about Building of WPK

Here are some stories about how President Kim Il Sung built the Workers’ Party of Korea.

No Father Party, No Son Party

President Kim Il Sung met the then Yugoslavian President Tito on his official goodwill visit to the East European country in June 1975. Tito told Kim Il Sung what was heavy on his heart, saying that the DPRK had the nerve to speak what it had to say and behave confidently, not studying others’ faces, but they were faced with some pressure and criticism from outside while building “autonomous socialism” against hegemony.

Kim Il Sung said to him that there could be neither father party nor son party and each party should arm its members with its own ideas and policies, not blindly following others’ policies. If a man follows flunkeyism, he becomes an idiot, if a nation follows flunkeyism, it falls into ruin, and if a party adopts flunkeyism, revolution and construction are to be ruined, he added.

Greatly influenced by Kim Il Sung’s remarks, Tito used to reject the interference by big-power chauvinists saying: “We are not a son party and you are not a father party.”

Building Party like a Peach

In May 1993, President Kim Il Sung met a foreign party delegation on a visit to Pyongyang.

The head of the delegation said to him that the West was now forcing political pluralism on them, and asked him how he built the WPK and what was the ideal way to build a ruling party.

Kim Il Sung cast a glance round the room for a while, and said holding a peach from the table: The party should be built like this peach. Revolution and construction can be done successfully when single-hearted unity is achieved between the leader, the party and the masses. When it comes to this peach, the flesh is the masses, the stone is the party and the seed is the leader.

Understanding his words, the head of the delegation said that his party-building theory is an original and great idea to be followed by all parties in all countries and that back home they would build their party like a peach of the DPRK.
