Answers Given by Dr Dermot Hudson to KFA Germany Q and A Session 06.06.2025

One thing that strikes me in particular is the Americanisation of German youth, especially among young people with a migrant background. In this context, Germany is increasingly losing its cultural character. Do you know if there is any literature on cultural imperialism by comrades from Korea?

The DPRK is strongly opposed to cultural imperialism and to the ideological and cultural infiltration of imperialism . President KIM IL SUNG in a work titled “”ON CREATING REVOLUTIONARY LITERATURE AND ART” published in 1964 wrote that “ We should reject all bourgeois music which dulls the revolutionary consciousness of the people. We should categorically reject the music which makes crazy noises out of the depths of sentimentality and grief , or leads man’s mind to obscenity.

As in the past , so must not allow the introduction of ‘jazz’ in the future. It depraves and emasculates young people and dulls their revolutionary consciousness . ‘Jazz’ is an ideological weapon of the imperialists to corrupt revolutionary nations. How can we accept the venom they direct at us , and by doing so destroy our own beliefs, we have to fight against US imperialism in the end ? We should completely reject ‘jazz”

Later in the 1980s he wrote that :

Careless opening may allow mosquitoes and blowflies to fly in and cause damage. We must conduct exchanges and joint ventures with other countries, but we must pitch mosquito nets to prevent those insects from infiltrating”

In numerous works Chairman KIM JONG IL warned against the imperialist cultural and ideological infiltration. One memorable quote is “It is important to educate the third and fourth generations of the revolution effectively, because they have experienced neither trials nor suffering . We must get them to drink the syrup made from the blueberries of Mt Paektu , not Coca Cola. In other words , we must imbue them thoroughly with the revolutionary ideology of our Party so that they are not swayed in the slightest by the wind of bourgeois liberalisation “”

On the 1st of June 1999 Rodong Sinmun , the daily organ of the Central Committee of the Workers Party of Korea and Kulloja the theoretical organ of the WPK carried a joint article titled “Let us reject imperialist ideological and cultural poisoning.”https://juche007-anglo-peopleskoreafriendship.blogspot.com/2017/02/combating-imperialist-ideological-and.html

It stated that  “  It is the main strategy of the imperialists to dominate the world with corrupt ideas which they had failed to bring under their control with atomic bombs and dollars. This poisoning is aimed at doing harm to the excellent national character of each country and nation and making hundreds of millions of people across the world mentally deformed.

Respected Marshal KIM JONG UN pointed out that “ Now the imperialists are hell-bent on a smear campaign to turn black into white and persisting in their attempts to infiltrate corrupt reactionary ideology and culture into our country with our service personnel and young people as the target, while clinging to manoeuvres to apply sanctions against our country and stifle it. Whereas the reactionary ideology and culture were their guide to aggression in the past, they are playing a leading part in aggression at present.

The struggle to defend socialism should be an offensive operation to, outwardly, gain political and ideological upper hand over the imperialists that hinder our onward movement and, inwardly, sweep up non-socialist practices and decadent ideology and culture by means of the revolutionary ideology and culture.

Ideological workers should dishearten the enemy by launching a skilful anti-enemy media warfare, radio warfare, which is aimed at giving wide publicity to the validity of our ideology and cause and at laying bare the vulnerability and foul nature of imperialists. They should make ideological “missiles” in larger numbers that can deal a heavy blow at the enemy and instil firm confidence in victory in our service personnel and people.

They should take the initiative in launching operations to make the imperialist moves for ideological and cultural infiltration end in smoke, while putting up “mosquito net” double and treble to prevent the viruses of capitalist ideology which the enemy is persistently attempting to spread from infiltrating across our border.

I would recommend the following works “ On Creating Revolutionary Literature and Art” by KIM IL SUNG and also “ On the Art of Dance “ and “On the Art of Music “ by comrade KIM JONG IL

Suggestion for the question and answer round: Cannabis use in the DPRK and the legal situation

This has been asked a lot in the last few days

There is no drug use in the DPRK . Article 207 of the DPRK criminal code states that “ A person who illegally uses drugs shall be sentenced to a term of short-term labour of less than 1 year. In grave cases of acts in the foregoing paragraph, he or she shall be sentenced to a term of reform through labour of less than 5 years.”

Some time ago “Vice “ magazine claimed that cannabis was legal in the DPRK, in 2015 I asked my guide Miss Ri of Pyongyang University of Foreign Studies about this . She said it was untrue and that drugs were a problem of capitalist society .

By the way in 2022 the DPRK Ministry of Foreign Affairs website carried an article titled “ Another Ills of European Society” which criticised drug use in European countries

https://juche007-anglo-peopleskoreafriendship.blogspot.com/2022/07/another-ills-of-european-society.html

Question for the Q&A, if it hasn’t come up yet What is ‘White Juche’ and is it wrong according to the Juche idea theory?

I do not know of such a thing as “White Juche “  , it sounds like something made up by the mainstream media or by silly idiots playing about on the internet .

Juche is not racist . The DPRK supported the Black Panther Party in the US and strongly criticised US racism . President KIM IL SUNG himself referred to the struggle of the black people in the US. The DPRK supported national liberation movements in Angola , Mozambique and Zimbabwe .

Comrade KIM JONG IL said “ Reactionary racism and national chauvinism which were used by the imperialists as ideological instruments of aggression and domination have been rejected by progressive humanity…..our nation first idea which is thoroughly opposed to reactionary racism, national chauvinism and cosmopolitanism not only values the the good traits of different nations but also respects the independence of other nations

Culture and behaviour

in context

Cultural introduction to a business collaboration

 E.g. making contact, behaviour, prerequisites

Taboos in the country

And the most important thing last.

How to be the only country on earth to make the Americans feel afraid and distressed

I am not sure whether I fully understand the questions . With regard to an introduction for business collaboration , it is important to have a business card and exchange it .

Koreans do shake hands but in their culture they like to bow and this is preferred .

As to taboos ; here is my list ;

Insulting the supreme leadership and the socialist system

Public displays of affection

Pointing with fingers

Any discussion of private life or sexual matter

Photographing women

To the last question  I would say that Americans fear the DPRK because of its militant anti-US ,anti-imperialist , anti  revisionist line and because it has the nuclear deterrent.

Hi, I wanted to ask (I didn’t want to write it in the comments because I don’t want to be banned, I just want to find out more, I’m approaching this without any preconceptions) What is life like in Korea, why is it forbidden to leave the country, what is the system like in terms of democracy, and what is communism like in Korea in general? I am familiar with Marxist theory and Marxism-Leninism, I am not anti-communist, and I do not support the exploitative capitalist system. I would like to learn more about Korea in general because I find it interesting, but I cannot find any accurate answers on the internet, and if there are, I don’t know if it’s anti-communist propaganda. I would also like to know if there are any possibilities to move there.

Citizens of the DPRK enjoy a high level of social benefits such as free housing , they work hard but have excellent cultural and recreational facilities . In the DPRK family life is important and the family is protected by law in the DPRK . In the DPRK there is a strong national culture .

Citizens are not forbidden to travel abroad.

Article 75 of the DPRK Socialist Constitution states that “. Citizens have freedom of residence and travel”

DPRK citizens do indeed travel abroad and not only travel but sometimes work  ,live or study abroad . I have met many DPRK citizens who have visited foreign countries. Also I have seen many DPRK citizens leaving the DPRK either on the plane or the train .

.

Our guide in 2012 Professor Ri Mu Il , of KIM IL SUNG University had actually lived in Britain , in Faversham ,for a few months as part of an exchange course with the University of Kent . Professor Ri had even visited Poundland and said ‘ where would British people be without Poundland?.

As for democracy in the DPRK Marshal KIM JONG UN is the elected head of state and was elected as general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea . Under a monarchy  the head of state is not elected .

Article 101 of the ‘Socialist Constitution of the DPRK states

“The Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is elected at the Supreme People’s Assembly ‘ and article 102 says that

“The term of office of the Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is the same as that of the Supreme People’s Assembly.’

This is really quite different from Queen Elizabeth’s role and position .

Also ‘ The Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is accountable to the Supreme People’s Assembly ‘ according to article 106 of the DPRK Socialist Constitution . This is a contrast to HM the King  who is not accountable to the UK parliament . In fact the King  has the legal power to dismiss parliament , this was last used in 1830 but still exists.

People exercise power through the Supreme People’s Assembly and people’s committees at all levels .

After the boredom of the UK general election in 2024 it is worth reflecting on the reactionary nature of bourgeois democracy and the superiority of the Juche based peoples democracy in the DPRK.

Indeed we have the farcical situation where you have the possibility of the winning party forming the government but it has in reality won less than a third of the votes of the total electorate. In the DPRK the government is elected with 100 % support.

Bourgeois democracy is simply based on money, whichever party has the most money wins the elections. All the main parties represent the interests of the monopoly capitalism and capitalist rulers.Alejandro Cao De Benos KFA president wrote in his book “Korea the Songun Citadel” that in the DPRK you will not find one ballot tainted with money .Indeed bourgeois democracy has become so corrupt. Not only does money determine the outcome but the members of parliament have their snouts in the trough of parliamentary expenses and seek to make the maximum amount of money through their office. In the DPRK deputies to Peoples Assemblies at all levels work hard for the people.

The DPRK has not yet reached communism, which is the higher stage of socialism in which classes and money will not exist . Probably the DPRK will reach communism before other socialist countries . In the DPRK there are the buds of communist society such as free housing and low cost food which is virtually free.
