48 years back on September 5, 1977, President Kim Il Sung published an immortal programme of education – the “Theses on Socialist Education”, which comprehends the ideology and theory on socialist education. With this publication, he laid eternal foundations for the development of Juche-oriented education.
Building on the precious tradition of educating young generation established in the early days of anti-Japanese war, President Kim Il Sung published the theses to give scientific answers to all issues arising in the development of socialist education, i.e., basic principles of socialist pedagogy, principles to be maintained in the educational work, educational content and methods, and so on. Thus, he clearly illuminated the way forward and approaches for the socialist education.
Chairman Kim Jong Il also saw to it that the education of the country and its material and technical foundations were continuously strengthened as required by the development of the era. He also established a well-regulated education system for prodigies all across the country. Even in the days of arduous march, when the imperialists went extreme in their moves to isolate and suffocate our country, he saw to it that free education and compulsory education were not suspended even for a moment.
Thanks to the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il, our country came to put in place the compulsory education system and free education system where all types of education ranging from preschool education to university education are provided at the state expenses, as well as the study-while-working education system and national system for nursing and upbringing of children.
The loss being suffered by the state for the sake of posterity is not a loss at all. The more we invest in children, the brighter the future of our country is. This is the noble view on posterity held by respected Comrade Kim Jong Un. Proceeding from this view, he extended the term of decades-long universal 11-year compulsory education system by 1 year even in the difficult times. He also took benevolent measures to systematically increase state investment for education sector.
Thanks to the wise leadership of Comrade Kim Jong Un, the educational sector in our country is making many progresses; education contents are revised to be more practical, integrated and modernized; hands-on trainings, experiments and practical trainings and skill trainings are allocated more teaching hours; and new effective teaching methods continue to be applied.
Our posterity will grow up into pillars who will shoulder the bright future of powerful Korea as we hold in high esteem respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who regards education as the first priority in guaranteeing the future of the country, and opens up a great heyday for socialist education in the new century.
