In December 2017, the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly designated May 16 as the “International Day of Living Together in Peace” reflecting the growing desire and aspiration of mankind to live happy lives in a peaceful and beautiful world.

It has been humankind’s dream since the ancient times to co-exist peacefully, but peace does not come true by simply dreaming in today’s world.

A foreign media reported that the death toll in the area since the outbreak of the Gaza crisis on October 7, 2023 has reached more than 52,400 including about 16,000 children, meaning one child killed every 40 minutes.

None of the denunciation by the world’s righteous people nor any measures taken and agreements concluded by international organizations and social bodies are enough to put the brakes on or pacify the inhumane and brutal massacre in the Gaza Strip which is dragging on for over a year and a half.

When a nation is not strong, it can hardly defend her people’s basic right to existence, not to speak of the peace and prosperity of the country and region – this is the truth that today’s reality is telling us.

In his speech at the launching ceremony of the destroyer of the Navy of the Korean People’s Army on April 25, respected Comrade Kim Jong Un stressed that the forces that are capable of committing aggression and the forces that are actually committing it can be overwhelmed and repulsed only by the forces that are equally strong. He clarified that there is and there must be no limit, to the rapid growth of the national defense capability and to our ideals which we are desirous of and are striving to achieve.

Genuine peace can only be safeguarded by strong power. Therefore, our country is ever more unwavering on our advance towards stronger self-defense capabilities.

There will come a time when the history will pass an impartial judgement on how the peace has been safeguarded over centuries in and around the world’s hottest spot of Korean peninsula.
